The Dr. Liv Smoothing Cleanser is the foundation of LEVEL I and your skin training routine. This gentle AHA/BHA foaming wash removes impurities, excess oil, and bacteria while minimizing enlarged pores. With glycolic and lactic acid, it stimulates cell turnover and collagen production, leaving skin clean, refined, and radiant within 6-8 weeks - the essential first step in the Dr. Liv Method. This product is not suitable for travels, please pack the travel size version instead.

AHA & BHA – Surface Smoothing Meets Deep Clean Glycolic and lactic acids gently dissolve dull surface cells and boost collagen for a radiant, even tone, while salicylic acid dives deeper to unclog pores, reduce breakouts, and refine texture. The result: smoother, clearer skin you can feel from the first wash.

How to use

1. remove make-up (if applied)
Make sure to wash your hands fefore touching your face and if applied, remove any make up using a make-up remover – ideally in a milk or oil-based consistency.

2. apply Smoothing Cleanser
Apply lukewarm water on your face and then 1 to 2 pumps of the Smoothing Cleanser. Spread evenly across the face avoiding your upper eyelids and lips. Leave it on for max 1-2 minutes, about as long as you brush your teeth.

3. rinse off the foam
Wash the foam off your face with lukewarm water and pat dry using a clean white towel just for your face.

AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid)

Also known as fruitacids (glycolic acid, lactic acid), are great for smoothing out skin’s surface and giving a healthy glow (anti-aging, anti-acne).

Partially neutralized glycolic acid formulations can stimulate collagen synthesis without causing excessive irritation. Can I use the Smoothing Cleanser when I use Retinol?

Yes, it's safe to use the Smoothing Cleanser while also using Retinol. The Smoothing Cleanser would be the first step in your routine to cleanse the face, while Retinol would be considered a TREAT step product to be applied in second stage.

I started using the cleanser and a few days later my skin broke out - help!

No need to get nervous! The dead cells are taken away from the surface of the skin and the skin cell production is getting boosted, which in turns means that impurities inside the skin come up to the surface. This will not last! In a few weeks at most, your skin becomes finer and smoother.

Is the Smoothing Cleanser safe to use during pregnancy?

We generally advise our clients not to use any products containing active ingredients during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Since the Smoothing Cleanser contains active ingredients such as AHA and BHA, it is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Always consult your medical professional if you have any further questions.

Why does my skin suddenly break out after using the Smoothing Cleanser?

It's quite common to experience this phenomenon, so there's no need to be alarmed. When you begin your skincare journey with our Smoothing Cleanser, your skin will be exposed to active ingredients that stimulate skin cell turnover. It can happen that you experience a temporary breakout, as skin cell turnover accelerates and impurities come to the surface. Typically, after about two weeks (varying from person to person), these initial breakouts should subside, and you'll begin to notice positive changes in your skin's appearance.

Does the Smoothing Cleanser also remove make-up?

While the Smoothing Cleanser effectively cleanses your skin, it's important to note that it is not meant to be used instead of makeup remover. If you've been wearing makeup throughout the day, it's essential to use a dedicated makeup remover before you begin with your skincare routine and apply our Smoothing Cleanser. This ensures thorough removal of make-up residue and other impurities, allowing your skin to be completely free from any dirt or buildup.

Why is there AHA (Fruitacids) in the cleanser?

Fruit acids belong to the alpha hydroxy acids, which are also called AHA. There’re a lot of different fruit acids. For examples glycolic acid, citric acid, lactic acid and tartaric acid. My favorite fruitacids are of course the glycolic acid and the lactic acid. Already Cleopatra did know about the effects of them. That’s the reason why she always took a bath in fermented donkey milk to get softer and more beautiful glowing skin. AHA helps gently remove dead skin cells and stimulate the creation of new ones - the real slow-aging (and anti-aging) super ingredient!

Is the cleanser suitable for those with acne-prone skin - or even someone on an existing acne treatment?

Yes, absolutely. It supports the skin in the fight against acne and pimples. Because it removes the dead cells on the skin surface, everything in the deeper levels of the skin might come out, but just in the beginning! It is perfect in combination with your dermatology acne treatment. Because it removes the dead skin cells on the surface, in the beginning all the “garbage” can come to the top. As a result, you will get a more cleaner and smoother skin.

I have Rosacea - can i use this cleanser?

Yes, but maybe not frequently in the beginning. Also don’t leave it on, just rinse it off in the beginning. Start by using every other day to let your skin get used to it, until you can work your way up to using the product twice a day.

Will the use of AHA make my skin thinner over time?

No, because the skin keeps producing new cells from bottom to top, until we die. If the dead cells are taken away, this happens even faster. I call this «sport» or « exercise» for your skin.

My face is tingling when I use it - is it normal?

Yes totally. The fruit acids can tingle at the beginning and make your face red for a short time, like the muscle soreness during sports. This goes away after several applications. If you are too unsure, then don't leave the foam on, but wash it off right away and/or use it every 3 days at the beginning, then every 2 days and then every day. Then you will be trained and you will not feel anything.

My face feels dryer now that I started using the cleanser - is this normal?

Yes, because the dead cells are taken away and this manifests in the beginning as dryness - it is therefore temporary and a natural process of stimulating skin cell turnover for the first time. In a few days, this will go away and your skin will feel more vivid.
