Once you've progressed through Level 1 with fruit acids (AHA) and feel comfortable with your skin, you can move on to Level 2. The Turnover Optimizer (retinol, retinal, and bakuchiol) intensely stimulates collagen production and cell turnover, thereby preventing the skin barrier from becoming thinner. The Turnover Optimizer should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Everyone with a Level 1 routine.
Retinol, retinal, and bakuchiol stimulate collagen production and improve skin firmness.
Retinol, retinal, and bakuchiol work similarly to, and in combination with, fruit acids. They stimulate cell production and thereby boost cell turnover. However, retinol, retinal and bakuchiol are much more potent than fruit acids, which is why they can lead to dryness, redness, or peeling 4-5 days after the first application. These reactions are completely normal in the beginning, similar to the muscle soreness you feel after exercise.
Like the Overnight Smoother (AHA), the Turnover Optimizer addresses various skin concerns by boosting cell turnover. It helps improve rough, dry, and large-pored skin, as well as redness, dark spots, and pimples, so you may not even need to target them individually.
In the evening, cleanse your face with the Smoothing Cleanser, just as you would in your Level 1 routine.
Dispense 1 to 2 drops of the Turnover Optimizer to the back of your hand and apply it to areas where you want to see the most results first (for example, on blemishes or under your cheekbones to boost collagen production). From there, distribute the remaining product across your face. The Turnover Optimizer can be used on the area under the eyes, but be sure to avoid the eyes, eyelids, and lips. After applying the Turnover Optimizer, refrain from using other creams to prevent “smearing” onto these sensitive areas.
Just like with fruit acids, it’s essential to apply the Day Shield (UVA/UVB protection) every morning when using Retinol.
At the beginning, the Turnover Optimizer should be used once a week, ideally on Monday evening. After three to four weeks, increase the frequency to Monday and Friday. After another four weeks, apply it on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, until your skin can handle it enough to use it Monday through Friday. On weekends and off nights, apply the Overnight Smoother instead. The Turnover Optimizer and Overnight Smoother should never be used on the same day.
In winter, the air tends to be dry and we spend most of our time in heated rooms. These conditions increase the feeling of dryness that retinol can initially cause. That’s why the Turnover Optimizer should be used no more than three times a week in winter. In summer, the frequency can be increased to five times a week.
Retinol, retinal, and bakuchiol stimulate the production of new skin cells. This supports cell turnover and leads to smoother, healthier and more radiant skin.
Retinol, retinal and bakuchiol boost collagen production in the lower layers of the skin, which increases skin firmness.
Niacinamide and Vitamin E protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules caused by UV radiation, pollution, and toxins. In cities with high levels of environmental pollution, comprehensive skin protection is especially important.
